Ever wondered what your cat gets up to all day?

Piktail is a tiny camera collar for cats and small dogs. It shows you the world from their point of view, tells you where they are, and gives you a heads-up when something seems off.

Why I'm making Piktail

Hi, I'm Jessica. I share my home in Sydney with three cats, a dog and a bird, and they're a big part of my life.

Pets can't tell us when something's wrong. I learned that the hard way. Garfield, my ginger cat, was hit by a car and died. Since then, every time one of mine slips out the door, goes quiet or stops eating, I worry, and I often find out later than I'd like.

The trackers I found were heavy, made for big dogs, and came with a monthly bill. So I'm making the one I wanted: small enough for a cat, cute enough that you'd happily put it on, and smart enough to let you know when something's not right.

I work in supply chain, so I care a lot about getting the making part right too. If that sounds like something you'd use, I'd love to have you along.

Jessica x

Moments every pet owner knows

These are the situations Piktail is being designed for.

7pm, dinner's out...

They haven't come home

Your cat always turns up for dinner, but not tonight. You walk the street calling their name, with no idea which way they went.

Piktail: an alert when they leave home, and their location on a map.

something's off

They're not quite right

They're sleeping more, eating less, and hiding. Is it a bad day, or something the vet should see? By the time it's obvious, it's often been going on for a while.

Piktail: a daily picture of activity, sleep and temperature, and a nudge when it changes.

at work, wondering

You miss them

You're at your desk wondering what they're up to. Napping in the sun? Chasing a bird? Stuck somewhere they shouldn't be?

Piktail: a quick look through their eyes, and a hello through the speaker.

What Piktail does

One small pod on a soft collar. Here's what it's being designed to do.

Live pet's-eye view in the Piktail app

See what they see

The camera sits on the front of the collar, so it looks where your pet looks. Check in from work, snap a photo, or say hello through the little speaker.

Small enough for a cat

We're aiming for a pod of 8–12 g and 2.5–3.5 cm across, on a collar with a breakaway buckle that opens if it ever gets caught.

  • Location, so you know where they've wandered
  • A skin temperature sensor on the back
  • Activity and sleep, learned for your pet
  • A gentle alert when something changes

Pick their look

Six shells, one smart core underneath. These are early concepts, and we'd love to hear which one your pet would wear.

Questions people ask

When can I buy one?

Not yet. We're just starting on the first prototype. Join the waitlist and you'll be the first to hear when it's ready.

How much will it cost?

We're aiming for under AUD 150, paid once. The basic features won't need a subscription.

Will my cat actually wear it?

That's the whole point of keeping it so light. We're aiming for 8–12 g for the pod, and we'll be testing comfort with real cats and small dogs before anything goes on sale.

Is it safe?

Every collar uses a breakaway buckle that opens if it gets caught on something. Safety testing is part of the plan before launch.
